About Henley Sales & Charter

Henley Sales and Charter Ltd works in partnership with many independent and creative boatbuilders on the Thames and also in different parts of the country including the South West, East Anglia, Cumbria and increasingly now in France and Germany. Our passion is to keep alive the traditions of our maritime history by acting as brokers and advisors to other enthusiasts.

Generally classic boats are cheaper to buy than their modern GRP or steel counterparts. It is true that there are maintenance costs but this means that an owner can personalise their vessel and enjoy being part of the “project”. Within Europe there are some spectacular on the water events to attend where one can meet like minded individuals. Classic boats are beautiful so there is immense aesthetic pleasure and pride to be gained from ownership.

HSC has excellent under cover premises for boat storage as well as contacts for craning, transport, surveys and associated services. At Beale Park we also have a slipway and direct access to the Thames from a private lake.

For the first time in 2014 Gillian Nahum is working with Special Auction Services to reintroduce the Classic Boat Auction which was such a feature of the Thames boating calendar for two decades from the mid nineteen eighties. This promises to be a regular event and an occasion for enthusiasts to gather from all over the UK and Europe at HSC’s Beale Park premises.

When it comes to charter HSC has over twenty years of experience in managing and operating charter boats, whether a slipper stern launch for a wedding party or a 100 person passenger vessel complete with chef and gourmet catering. During the summer the office is open 7 days a week with someone always on call to answer questions and take bookings.

In 2012 HSC opened Boatique, currently at 5 Friday St. Henley on Thames, to complement our boat sales and charter business. Boatique has stylish boaty clothing, deck shoes, and a range of boaty essentials such as cool boxes, picnic sets and the like. Visit www.boatique.co.uk or ring 01491 410840.

What our clients say

Jobelle and Graham did a fantastic job and we enjoyed being chauffeured to the reception in style!  We were chuffed to bits with how well the boat went down with our guests. Thank you for being so accommodating in taking them all for a ride along the river. I recall seeing a queue of people at one point waiting for a ride!

The weather was perfect for the day and to show off Jobelle to her best.

Just a short note to say what a lovely afternoon we had today on Dragonfly. It’s a beautiful boat and a gorgeous stretch of the river. Please pass on my regards to Steve Harris; he’s a fantastic skipper. Thanks again for your assistance. We’ll definitely be back!
Chris 23/10/2017
“Oh my goodness, we had simply the most fabulous trip yesterday – and just how brilliant is Steve. He’s like a walking wikipedia of the history and celeb / house gossip of that route of the Thames. We loved him.

The drinks and canapés went down a treat too so please thank Charlotte.

Everything was amazing and we had a ball. Thank you so much for all your organisation, you have been a delight. We absolutely will book with Henley Sales and Charter again – and we will be recommending you to all our friends”Fringilla 3rd May 2017

The Team

Gillian Nahum
Gillian NahumDirector
Founder of Henley Sales & Charter, Gillian Nahum, a Piscean, a water lover and an enthusiast of all forms of classic transport, founded HSC in 1992 with one glorious wooden gentleman’s launch for charter and the boat sales agency for the now defunct Steam and Electric Launch Company.

Henley Sales and Charter is the perfect vehicle for Gillian to combine her personal enthusiasm and boating interests with her professional and commercial vision of a successful, locally based business which gives pleasure and imparts knowledge to like minded boating enthusiasts worldwide.

Stuart Roberts
Stuart RobertsDirector
Stuart Roberts was born in Benson, Oxfordshire, just a stone’s throw from the River Thames. By the age of 18 Stuart had his own company “Benson Boatworks” taking care of vintage boats between Wallingford and Oxford for riverside residents. In time Stuart became a skillful engineer as well as a boatbuilder and his company’s reputation spread along the river by word of mouth.

As a director and shareholder of HSC Stuart is delighted that he no longer has to pore over accounts and can hand over all the “boring” admin tasks to Alex and Karen in the Henley office. Stuart is very excited about the prospect of meeting new customers and working with Gillian and her team. The feeling is entirely mutual.

Gail Lewis
Gail LewisAdministrator
Gail became administrator-in-chief to Henley Sales and Charter Ltd. in summer 2016 and since then she has become a genuine river rat. Gail not only knows the bow from the stern but she also knows a good deal about our customer base and understands completely how valuable each and every boat is to its owner.

Gail is often to be found at 5 Friday st. just a stone’s throw from the River Thames. Gail says she loves her job because it is endlessly varied and she loves the sense of team work both in the sales office and at the boatyard. While spreadsheets are her natural habitat she has grown to enjoy spending time meeting customers at boat shows and also organising our charter outings. Gail has two children who devised our Pure Boating children’s activity sheet and lives close to the River Thames in Maidenhead.

Ellie Hillier
Ellie HillierJunior boatbuilder
Ellie joined HSC straight from her diploma at Lyme Regis boatbuilding Academy where she was a star student.

Ellie works under the watchful eye of Stuart and is becoming a wizard with the varnish brush. She will be working in her spare time on Nada which is a gorgeous nineteen thirties gentleman’s launch currently owned by HSC. While at the Academy Ellie built a traditional clinker sailing boat. Ellie helps out at weekends in Wallingford at our Pure Boating base.
