ISOLDE – a Petterson “smuggler” launch

A Petterson "Smuggler" launch from the Swedish archipelago, eminently suitable for coastal cruising or inland waterways.

Isolde was built in Sweden by the renowned boatbuilder C.G. Petterson whose boats are so recognisable thanks to their pleasing lines and gently curved foredeck. Known as a “Smuggler” as they were designed originally to be used by customs officers in their hunt for smugglers around the Swedish coast. The boat was constructed of mahogany and has all its original fittings. A similar boat was seen at the Thames Traditional Boat Rally this summer and carried off several awards.

The owner is a classic car enthusiast with a whole collection of interesting vehicles. As with his cars he had the best craftsmen to restore the boat and it was at this time that a new Volvo B20 engine was installed. As the photos show the interior has been sympathetically restored with the large central cockpit, a saloon in the bow and a smaller aft area with sleeping for two people.  There is a good canopy for cockpit protection as well as a full length cover. The estimated weight of the boat is 2500 kilos so fine for towing with the right vehicle and trailer.
