Lisbeth – An electric Borwicks saloon launch

An exceptional Borwicks electric gentleman's saloon launch

Lisbeth is a charming, spacious Gentleman’s launch built in the mid 20th century to a classic Windermere design. Built of mahogany on oak and with a beam of 9ft 6ins she is the ideal launch for entertaining up to 12 guests with skipper and optional crew. Additional 21st century comforts include heating in the cabin and a spacious loo with a basin and shower.

The seating in the main saloon would easily convert to bunks for overnighting on board in comfort. The galley has a gas hob and ample room for food preparation.

The in built champagne cooler is an obvious necessity for stylish entertaining. Guests can lounge in the draught free cabin or enjoy the fresh air both in the aft cockpit and the forward cabin where the drop down window panels create a kind of floating conservatory. The boat is electrically powered which enables complete tranquillity and relaxation with the added peace of mind offered by an on board generator.

This boat has a particularly interesting history which is witnessed in archival material from old newspapers. She was built post war as an electric launch for operation for 40 + passengers on a lake near Oldham. There she lived in a boatshed. However as time went by the lake itself sprung a leak and the boat ended up grounded. She was purchased by a private company operating boats on the Bridgewater Canal and this is where she lived and worked for a few years before being purchased by her previous owner who lavished large amounts of money on a new cabin and internal fit out. The renovation included some wonderful wood carving of a kingfisher and bespoke tiling in the shower area which also includes a kingfisher motif.

Henley Sales and Charter have used the boat for charter at Henley Royal Regatta on occasion as well as on her home reach around Goring and Streatley. She has overwintered with us ashore at Beale Park boat store.

Lisbeth is now based afloat on the Goring reach in a private boat house and available for viewing strictly by appointment.
