Snapdragon – a Rampart 39

Rampart 39 motor yacht

Snapdragon was previously known as Kalbarri under her previous East coast ownership. She is described as a heavy displacement round bilge cruiser with dual helm positions, large saloon, full bathroom, wheelhouse, galley and owners cabin with midships double berth. We previously sold the Rampart 39 Zenique which was the last one ever built in 1984. This feels like a big boat with roomy interior and spacious flying bridge. In theory this craft sleeps six and the aft cabin can convert to a double although the current owner uses this area as his main living space. The heads have a hip bath with shower, and there is a Portapotti in the place of the sea toilet. However the owner will put the sea toilet back for a future owner if required. A holding tank could be fitted. Talking of tanks there are 2 x 100 gallon aluminium fuel tanks either side of the easily accessible engine room. 2 x 25 gallon aluminium fresh water tanks lie under the aft saloon seats as well as a 55 litre calorifier hot water tank with an additional 240 volt immersion heater which runs off the port engine.

The twin Perkins 4.236 72 HP six cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engines on flexible mounts. Borg Warner reduction gearboxes drive through to three bladed fixed pitch propellors on bronze A brackets.

The boat was recently out of the water for some hull work and reantifouling. Expect to spend time and or money on the wheelhouse woodwork around the windscreen as is usual on a Rampart of this age.

This is a very cosy vessel with a galley which was rebuilt in 2008 which has a gas oven, two burner hob, stainless steel sink, hot and cold pressurised water system.

The currrent owner added an additional inverter and anti osmosis electronic device.

There is a mast and boom for a steadying sail.

Rampart built serious boats with strong materials. They prided themselves on using solid woods and indeed Snapdragon has an iroko hull and planking on steam bent frames. The decks are of laid iroko on marine play. The forward deck has been treated with Coelan.

The price reflects the fact that there is work to be done on the wheelhouse and some deck work may be required as only half the total decking has been treated with Coelan. The owner is moving to a much larger boat and is just keen to find a good owner for his well loved Rampart.
