Silver Queen is normally based in Windsor but will be visiting Henley on Thames for the Henley Royal Regatta and the ensuing Music festival.
A few historical notes :
Between May 28th and June 4th 1940 no less than 338,000 British and allied troops were evacuated off the Normandy beaches. One third were saved by a fleet of ships commandeered by the British Navy for the task. Silver Queen answered the cry for help and after a near escape from enemy fire she limped into Ramsgate with a boat load of lucky escapees. After what became known as the "Miracle of Dunkirk" Silver Queen continued to serve as a contraband control vessel.
In peacetime she found a new role as a trip boat in Sheerness where she is reported to have carried 120 passengers on one trip !
Now she carries just 12 having been restored initially by the Dunkirk Little Ship Restoration Trust, with the more recent addition of a washroom and toilet as well as an aft canopy.
Silver Queen featured in the BBC documentary on the evacuation of Dunkirk filmed in 2010, and is a regular attendee at many historical events thanks to her new owner's enthusiasm as the grandson of a Dunkirk evacuee.
