ALESSI is a 12 ft sailing/rowing dinghy built in 2011 by James Higson, during his period as a student at the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis. Constructed to a design by Paul Gartside James used larch on oak clinker construction with oak grown knees and copper rivets. The result is really pleasing to the eye.

The keel, stem, transom, sole boards, thwarts, rear seating, gunwhales and external rubbing strips are solid oak; the rubbing strips are detachable to enable easy replacement if damaged.

The hull is finished in rubberised epoxy, followed by Epifanes single-pack paint and varnish for superior gloss retention, optimum weather durability, water resistance and UV protection; the seats received 15 coats of varnish with 8 on the rest of the boat! The sole boards are oiled.

The removable dagger board is glass fibre coated ply for strength and the detachable oak rudder has a lifting tiller.

Rigging is a standing lug with spruce mast, boom & yard; the mainsail is a tan clipper canvas sail.

Alessi is equipped with bespoke hand-made leathered spoon oars and bronze rowlocks; all other bright work is bronze.

She is supplied with a 2011 Indespension galvanised A-frame road trailer and custom-made cover.

Available for viewing near Wallingford ashore.
