Carician is the last of the traditional 40ft Bates Starcraft built of teak. She is capable of cruising at 20kts and has cruised the Channel Islands, Holland, Brittany and the Mediterranean in recent years. The flying bridge and easy access from the main saloon differentiate this boat from its predecessors, and indeeed owned as she was by a member of the Bates family, it is clear that he knew how to create a boat to satisfy the demands of a discerning owner. A subsequent 'Batesophile' added a generator and remodelled the galley to include a useful pantry area where the quarter berth would have been. There is also a freezer and a microwave for long distance cruising.During the winter of 1993-1994 extensive refurbishment and re-wiring was completed. Her original pair of 175hp Perkins' diesels were replaced with Volvo TMD41 engines. The interior was rebuilt by Michael Dennett of Laleham. In 2006 the owner had the boat stripped back and the electrics and engines were modified in 2007. A new coach roof has recently been installed while the boat is currently being repainted and revarnished which gives a prospective owner an opportunity to view the boat out of the water.Carician sleeps 4 in two separate cabins with separate heads while the saloon, with its two comfortable settees, provides extra sleeping accommodation. There is a current licence for the Thames and a current BSS Certificate. She is for sale with a full winter cover. It is possible the berth at Benson may be available by separate arrangement.Carician is available to view by appointment and has a summer mooring in Oxfordshire which may be available for a new owner.
