1952/3
30ft
Single BMC diesel + bow thruster
10ft 3in

Isis Star was build number 30/2 so the second of the thirty foot cabin launches to emerge from the eponymous Bates yard at Chertsey. She is remarkably original with all her mahogany interior intact, including the galley with its lovely chrome handles. The addition of a shower and teak grating makes the boat a super long distance cruiser for a couple. The saloon area comprises two identical arrangements to port and starboard with a table and two facing seats on either side. All the cushions have been recovered in stone coloured leather including the lounging cushions in the open aft cockpit. The boat has had several names including Mira Star, the original, and then Tratina and Frances May. The previous owners replaced the original engine with a BMC diesel and the present owners decided to fit a bow thruster for ease of maneouvring. Easy roll back fabric covers were designed for the hatches to increase the light levels on board and to ensure ease of access to the outside when traversing locks or when simply in need of some sunshine. Isis Star is currently out of the water in Henley on Thames awaiting a caring owner and due to be relaunched in late April. Her BSS certificate is valid and she will be sold with a 2012 licence.

Isis Star is a lovely example of the early Bates Starcraft with a pale leather interior and all the original mahogany and chrome. The heads have a shower and are updated and finished to a high standard as is the galley which had a new cooker in 2007. In the saloon there are tables either side of the central walkway which offers good head height. Both tables and seats convert into berths while the forward cabin has a v berth with hanging space. A delightful feature of this boat is the double door opening into the aft cockpit with its removable canopy making for alfresco dining around the varnished engine box top. A removable cooler box is fitted under the starboard passenger seat. Several Bates Starcraft will be attending the Queens Jubilee Pageant this year in June 2012 and the class continues to have an active club life with plenty of expertise on offer for the amateur.
