single BMC diesel with Borg Warner gearbox (1970)
7ft5ins

A fine member of the Thames Vintage Boat Club in the same ownership since the 1996, now sadly for sale due to ill health. This boat won the Penton Hook prize at the Henley Traditional Boat Rally in 2000 for her high standard of restoration and has been well maintained ever since by her riparian owner. Gay Lady has a BSS certificate valid until 2014.

Gay Lady was restored professionally and Michael Blackwell was the builder involved who built the Cabot replica. She is constructed of pitch pine on oak frames with teak and polished oak in the cabin to give that special feeling of originality. She is diesel powered, single screw and sleeps two comfortably forward with rear sleeping for children provided in the stern.

She was launched in Bristol old dock in 1936 for Frederick Blackwell and his family. She spent her early life on the River Avon and the Kennett and Avon canal and was not launched on the Thames until the 70s.

She will go under Osney Bridge with the mast down (6ft 2ins) and she draws two foot six including the additional bilge keels.

This boat has masses of character and really has to be visited for a full appreciation of her charm. In the cabin are photos of her in 1937. She has an oak table to match the interior cupboards in all areas. The wheelhouse provides an enamel basin a Flavel gas cooker with 2 rings, grill and oven.

She is moored on the Thames for ease of viewing at Bourne End under an excellent full length cover and available to view by appointment so please call 01491 578870 if you would like any further information.
