Gralian's entries in 1939 Lloyds as 'Jeakelard' owned by Mrs Joyce Sherren, who lived in Felixstowe, and in the 1978 where she is 'Gralian'

Gralian was built by Saunders Roe of Cowes to Lloyds standard, originally named Jeakelard when she was owned by Mrs Joyce Sherren who lived in Felixstowe. During the war she was painted battleship grey and more information on her war service can be found in the archives of the Imperial War Museum. We know that Gralian was commandeered for war service during 1940/46 with the Royal Navy on escort duties but she does not register as having been to Dunkirk.

She is now painted white with lashings of varnish both inside and out. Generally in excellent original condition having been owned for 20 years by a perfectionist with an eye to historical details.. The present owner cruised her extensively with family and friends on the East coast.

Overwintered on shore annually where she is now available for viewing and survey. Good equipment which includes radar, GPS, re engined Mercedes twin 4 cylinder 80 hp.diesels consuming 1/2 gallon per hour per engine at a cruising speed of 7 knots: Two separate fuel tanks, one which takes 350 litres, the other a new s/s tank installed last year holding 250 litres leaving space alongside for the installation of a generator is required. The fresh water tank holds 300 gallons. BSS certificate current. The galley is hand built in teak and oak to match the rest of the interior panelling and woodwork. Some of the teak is quite exceptional and would be impossible to find today. Charming pitch pine on oak, clinker built tender of some 290 cms in length, with Stuart Turner, rope fendering, pair of oars and rowlocks, seats three adults plus 1 child. The tender fits the davits but is not the original having been built by Moodys in 1953.

The boat is true to its original internal layout with the large aft cabin complete with chest of drawers and hanging space, moving forward on the port side is the head with shower, porcelain sink and original sea toilet; on the starboard side is a single cabin with hanging wardrobe and chest of drawers. The wheelhouse has two wide upholstered seats aft of the driving position, superb old instruments, a ships engraved bell. Forward of the wheelhouse is the teak and oak lined saloon leading forward to the galley which has to be the best I have ever seen on a boat with beautiful rounded corners, internal shelving, full size cooker etc. The forward cabin is a single (used to have bunks) but could be made into a second head.

For the frustrated sailor there is a genuine mast and steadying sail which the owner always uses on longer passages.
