Viola was built in 1926 by the famed Bowness on Windermere yard - Borwicks. At 28ft 6ins in length and with a beam of 6ft10ins she provides excellent day launch accommodation. Of traditional Lakes design she is built of mahogany on oak with a canopied forward cockpit, a glass enclosed cabin and a small stern cockpit with the transom stern typical of Borwicks. She has a useful WC compartment which is fitted with a Portapotti. Maroon cushions and chrome fittings complete the picture.The engine is a Grays 4 cylinder freshwater cooled engine built in the US in 1926. The electrics were originally 6 volts but the starter motor, coil and dynamo were rewound to 12 volts by the previous owner. The engine was completely stripped down and refurbished as necessary and at the same time the gearbox was stripped down and rebuilt; the distributor was rebuilt in 2005.The previous owner had the boat for 24 years during which time she was carefully maintained. She has a current BSS certificate.The present owner has maintained the boat meticulously at Martham Boatyard in Norfolk. She is now in Pangbourne at our Beale Park premises and available for viewing.
