Cutlass is a rare and handsome Bonds of Maidenhead day launch which originally had a very small aft cabin. The current owners acquired her in 1999 at the prestigious Phillips auction where she had previously been sold in 1989. Prior to that she must have been in private hands for many years having been built in 1933. They immediately tasked Guy Wootten with extending the cabin to resemble closely a traditional Andrews day launch and to offer internal seating as well as heads and a galley. With a length of 28ft and a beam of 6ft 7 ins she however considerably larger than an Andrews day launch so the cabin and cockpits offer more seating. The Ford Watermota Sea Wolf is a true petrol workhorse, quiet and reliable. Additional covers have been added both for storage and for shade (works for rain too !)
The hull is carvel planked in mahogany and while this is painted navy blue, the decks and covering boards are in varnished mahogany. A smart spotlight is located on the foredeck just in front of the glass windscreen. The boat is driven from the port side. The cushions are a lighter shade of blue and the carpets lighter still. This is an elegant and much loved day launch whose owners have had more than 20 years of enjoyment including mooring regularly at the Henley Festival to entertain. There is a bespoke table with lives in the cabin and folds away when not in use.
One could in fact spend the odd night in the cabin area and there is a toilet compartment on the starboard side opposite the galley and just in front of the aft cockpit with seating for 3 to 4 guests.
The BSS certificate runs to 2022 and the EA licence is current. Cutlass lives on a pontoon mooring at Hambleden Mill Marina which may be available by separate negotiation. For viewing please contact our Henley office on 01491 578870.
