Jamarc – a Bates 45ft Starcraft

A Thames "superyacht"

You really need to visit to appreciate the charm, comfort and character of Jamarc. As a one time owner of a Bates Starcraft I was curious to view Jamarc whose name had always been whispered with awe by the Bates Starcraft owners. Based on and around the Norfolk Broads and an occasional visitor to the Thames Traditional Boat Festival she is a remarkably well maintained vessel with owners, now vendors, who have clearly loved her. Built of double diagonal teak on oak with a a teak keel and refitted with 2 x Cummins 6BT diesel engines she is ready to go on adventures far and wide with a new owner. With a draft of 3ft 3ins and a super flying bridge she is capable of cruising as far as Oxford on the Thames while being equally at home on a Scottish or Cumbrian lock. She has been across the Channel and has Historic ship status granted on her fiftieth birthday.

Internally there are the two heads you would expect including the en suite within the master cabin. The bed has been widened and the single port side berth replaced with mahogany cabinetry. In the main saloon there is a long sofa and two armchairs with the original Bates extending table. I was impressed by the hidden controls for the electrics and electronics (see inventory to follow). The galley has been completely refurbished and would be an asset to any modern house. I particularly appreciate the two large fridges, one for food and one for drinks ! Cooking is by diesel so there is no gas on board. The twin cabin gives two more berths and of course an additional head.

The engines are easily accessible by lifting just one set of floorboards. Frankly I have rarely seen engines so clean and tidy.

We have a 2017 survey available for serious buyers. Please call the office for more information on 01491 578870.

A full inventory is available and a year by year history of all maintenance carried out recently by South River Marine where the boat overwinters ashore every year, and previously on the Thames by John Alkin in Caversham.
